An unexpected hike in the number of annual multi trip policies sold by over 50s expert Staysure is further proof of the senior traveller’s ability to withstand the current economic downturn.
Despite the country’s financial situation the proportion of annual travel insurance policies has risen across most age groups according to Staysure, the UK’s fastest growing over 50s insurance and financial services provider. The rise is most notable in the 50-70 age range travelling to Europe, indicating that seniors are travelling shorter distances and taking advantage of cheap holiday deals.
Stewart Rioch, general manager of Staysure’s travel insurance division, said: “The figures demonstrate the senior sector is less affected by the recession and plan to continue to take several holidays a year. Naturally not everyone can avoid the impact of the current climate but many have sufficient disposable income and regard travel as fundamental to their lifestyle. It is a resilient sector and as such we have continued to see strong growth in 2011.”
“We have to attribute some of this success to the fact that Staysure is one of the few brokers providing worldwide annual cover up to age 85. As life expectancy increases so too does the frequency of pre-existing medical conditions. It’s pointless providing cover for all ages unless you can adequately accommodate your client’s medical history. Our wide parameters allow customers to get the cover they need and value for money.” he continued.
The sizeable over-50s insurance market has allowed the company to thrive. Competitor research conducted by Staysure in May 2011 showed their brands to be well-placed and compared favourably for clients with and without medical conditions. Additionally, the company has invested heavily in providing the level of customer service demanded by this audience and uses the latest technology to manage queue times, resulting in 80% of calls being answered within 30 seconds.
Note: Staysure’s European annual multi trip policies begin at just £29.99 for travellers under 66 and include over 220 pre-existing medical conditions free of charge.
