Assisted Living

It’s only natural that as we get older, even simple things take a little longer. So what happens when day-to-day living becomes too difficult to manage but you aren’t ready to give up your independence?
Most people would prefer to stay in their own home, particularly when the only alternative was to move in with family, residential care or a nursing home. Those without close family used to be faced with the prospect of selling their home and relinquishing control before necessary. Today Assisted Living provides a new alternative.
Assisted Living schemes bridge the gap between the conventional over 50s retirement living developments and a residential care or nursing home, responding to the requirements of people who need a certain degree of ‘assistance’ without giving up on their independence on a daily basis. Assisted Living is not designed to be a substitute for a nursing home; but the additional features and facilities could postpone the need for residential care.
Although facilities and services can vary between Assisted Living developments, here is a selection of the type of benefits you can expect to enjoy;

Waitress service restaurant
A substantial midday meal provided everyday for a modest cost which can be delivered to residents in the event of illness.

Residents’ lounge
Elegantly furnished and located close to the restaurant, a residents’ lounge serving as a popular meeting place and also have pleasant and sociable surroundings in which to enjoy a post-lunch cup of tea or coffee.

Function room
Most establishments offer a function room which can be independent or sometimes is an extension of the residents' lounge. Expect hotel standard furnishings and internet access.

Domestic assistance
Many Assisted Living developments offer domestic help either provided as part of the service charges or as extra service for an additional cost. The type of service offered depends upon the individual development but often includes help with domestic chores and shopping. Increased assistance can be arranged to cover periods of illness etc.

Personal care
This is available by arrangement with a locally appointed Care Agency. Services can be tailored to meet the individual needs of a resident with the costs met by the individual.

24-hour on-site staff
Residents can enjoy peace of mind that an Estate Manager will be on-site to help 24-7.

Mobility
Assisted Living developments are designed to enable maximum independence to all residents, providing unrestricted wheelchair access to communal areas and private apartments. There is also a lift service to all floors.

Guest suite
If you fancy inviting friends or family to stay the night, they can take advantage of the development’s ‘guest suite’. Rooms enjoy tasteful decor, en-suite bathroom, television and coffee making facilities, similar the style of a good quality hotel.

Laundry
Residents can take advantage of a number of washing machines and separate dryers which are conveniently raised for easy loading.

Convenient extras
For added convenience, Assisted Living developments often provide bathrooms featuring both a bath and a separate level access shower and electrically operated kitchen windows for additional ease.
