Airlines could be facing major delays this Saturday after Italian air traffic control bosses announced a country-wide strike
Travellers could face disruption to their travel plans after Italian air traffic controllers announced a strike this Saturday 24th October.
The industrial action will take place between 10am and 6pm local time across the country.
The news means a number of airlines could make adjustments to flights set to operate to and from Italy during the strike times.
Customers are also advised to carry essential items such as medication, baby formula, nappies, books and games (to keep children occupied) in their hand luggage.

How does this affect my Staysure Travel Insurance policy?

Customers are advised to contact their travel agent, tour operator or airline for advice and assistance in the first instance.

If you have purchased a Basic policy you are not covered for travel disruption or missed departure. However, if you have purchased a Comprehensive Travel Insurance policy with Staysure, you can submit a claim for Missed Departure and Travel Delay – if you purchased your cover before the strike was publicly announced in the UK media on Wednesday 21st October 2015.
If you bought travel insurance on or after the date the strike was announced you will not be able to submit a claim under the Cancellation, Curtailment or Travel Delay section of the policy, if the time of departure coincides with any of the announced strike hours.

Comprehensive Travel Insurance – Missed Departure

If you have purchased a Comprehensive Travel Insurance policy with Staysure before Thursday 24th September 2015, then your cover includes £500 for travel to a European destination or £1,000 to a worldwide destination.
