Leading financial products researcher, Defaqto, has urged people planning a ski holiday to check their travel insurance after its research found only one in six annual policies automatically cover winter sports.
According to Defaqto, the findings mean that many winter sport enthusiasts could be left out of pocket unless they fully understand the winter travel insurance they have purchased.
The research showed that only 15% of annual travel insurance policies cover winter sports as standard while 13% off single-trip policies offer no cover at all. It also found that nearly a fifth (18%) of policies which offer winter sports cover either as standard or as an optional extra do not offer any cover for a lost ski pass.
Brian Brown, head of insight at Defaqto, commented: “Insurance policies are continuously evolving with new add-ons and standard packages and this can be both overwhelming and confusing for people purchasing a policy.
“So we advise anyone who is looking to head to the slopes this season to ensure they are fully aware of the cover they need and the products available, in order to make the best informed decision and enjoy their holiday knowing they are covered.”
If you’re off to the slopes you’ll be pleased to know that winter sports cover is included as standard on Staysure’s 5-Star Defaqto Rated Comprehensive Annual Travel Insurance* which offers 21 days cover as well as up to:
