Travel safety

If you’re planning a number of trips in a year it’s important that you’re armed with as much knowledge as possible before you travel. Staysure is an official partner of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s Travel Aware campaign which helps to keep British travellers safe and healthy abroad. Travel Aware comprises a number of simple steps to run through before travelling including:

  • Making sure you have the right travel insurance (and your free European Health Insurance Card if you’re travelling in Europe)
  • Checking the FCO’s foreign travel advice for your destination which lets you know if travel is safe as well as basic information on the country’s customs, laws and entry requirements
  • Checking your passport is valid for the entirety of your trip and note that some destinations require an extra period of validity to allow you to enter the country
  • Taking a look at the Travel Health Pro website, which gives you comprehensive information about health-related travel issues on a country-by-country basis.

Common questions about annual travel insurance

  • How many trips can I take?

You can take an unlimited number of trips as long as you don’t spend more than 183 days abroad.
  • How many days can I travel for?

You can spend up to a total of 183 days abroad during the period covered by the policy, however each trip you take must not be longer than:

    • 50 days if you are aged 70 or below. You can increase your trip duration limit to 100 days (for one trip) by paying an additional premium
    • 35 days if you are aged 71-85.

If you are planning a longer holiday, single-trip long-stay policies are available.

  • What is the age limit for annual travel insurance?

You must be 85 years of age or under to buy annual travel insurance. If you’re over 85 you can still get cover with our single-trip insurance, which has no upper age limit.
  • When should I buy an annual policy?

A Staysure annual travel insurance policy can be bought up to 90 days before you want it to start.

If you buy an annual policy, you will be covered for cancellations from the moment you book each trip covered within the policy’s dates or from the first day of the period of cover shown on your Validation Certificate, whichever is later.

  • Does annual multi trip insurance include cover within my home country?

Yes, any travel in your home country is covered as long as the trip lasts at least two consecutive nights and the accommodation is pre-booked.  While medical treatment in the UK will be covered by the NHS, a quality UK travel insurance policy that will offer numerous additional benefits including coverage for cancellation and curtailment, lost or stolen baggage and personal money as well as travel delays.
