Why get arthritis travel insurance?

Travel insurance provides you with peace of mind while travelling and can protect you and your holiday in a range of circumstances:

  • Our travel insurance saves you from potentially high medical costs if you get ill and need treatment while you are away
  • All our policies include repatriation to the UK in a medical emergency, a benefit that could save you thousands of pounds
  • Our 24-hour emergency medical assistance is often a godsend when you are in a foreign country and don’t speak the language. Simply reverse the charges and a multilingual team of trained medical and technical staff will help you with any arrangements you need to make
  • All policies pay extra travel and accommodation expenses if you find that you cannot travel home on your designated flight due to a medical condition

What will I be asked during the screening process?

When applying for arthritis travel insurance with us, we’ll ask you to complete a simple medical screening questionnaire where we’ll ask the following:

  • What type of arthritis do/did you have?
  • How many (if any) unplanned hospital admissions have you had for this condition in the last year?
  • How many (if any) medicines do you take for this condition?
  • How many (if any) joint replacement or joint resurfacing operations have you had?
  • If you’ve had one, has your joint replacement ever dislocated?
  • Are you waiting further joint replacement surgery?
  • Have you needed treatment for any neck or back problems?

Common questions about arthritis travel insurance

  • I have both rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis – will you still cover me?

We consider cover for pre-existing medical conditions including arthritis and osteoarthritis. You will need to complete a simple medical screening process which you can do over the phone or online if you prefer. Provided all medical questions are answered and any other pre-existing medical conditions are declared, the underwriters agree to cover you and, if required, any additional premium is paid, you will be covered.
  • Should I wait until after my scan results before I get my quote?

Yes, your scan results could well influence the pricing and our ability to cover you, so it would be best to wait until you get them.
  • I use a mobility scooter to get around. Am I insured if I have an accident whilst using it abroad?

Personal Accident cover (if you become permanently disabled or lose a limb, sight or hearing) and Personal Liability (for injury to a third party or damage to property) are not provided if you are using a mobility scooter.

Be aware also that if you are under the influence of drugs (except those prescribed by your doctor), solvents or alcohol whilst driving your scooter, your claim may be rendered invalid.
Please note: we are not able to cover the scooter itself if it is lost or damaged.

  • If I lose my medication while I am away, will you help me replace them?

If you have a Comprehensive policy, then Personal Assistance Services will assist you to replace any lost or stolen medications. They will help with sourcing and replacing them quickly but you will have to pay for any prescription medication yourself.
  • If I take out a single trip Comprehensive policy, would you fly me home due to being in hospital?

Yes, we can cover you if you are unable to fly back home due to hospitalisation or medical treatment. As well as your flight back home, we include extra travel and accommodation costs up to £2,000 per insured party and if deemed medically necessary, a travelling companion* can stay with you and accompany you back home. We will provide an ambulance if you need one to take you home when you get back to the UK. If you have a Comprehensive policy, you will get a daily hospital benefit for stays of over 24 hours to help with extra costs.
