The over 50s are getting more adventurous in their travels as they get older, according to a new survey by over 50s experts Staysure.co.uk
Conducted in March, the survey found that almost three quarters of over 50s (72%) said they are taking more adventurous holidays and seeking new places in their golden years. Of these, 8% admitted their improved financial situation is a contributing factor to fulfilling their travel dreams.
There are still some who like to play it safe though; 18% of over 50's much prefer to visit their tried and tested destinations year after year, and a further 3% admit that being a long way from home doesn't appeal to them at all.
Stewart Rioch, general manager of travel insurance products at Staysure.co.uk, said "It's great to see that old age isn't slowing down our customers. The over 50s have a great opportunity to travel the world and discover new destinations as work and family commitments lessen"
"It is so important, especially when travelling to unfamiliar places, to ensure that you not only have travel insurance but also have the right level of cover," Rioch advises "For example, when travelling to Cuba you must have comprehensive travel insurance that covers you for all medical costs; in addition, you have to present your travel insurance certificate at immigration upon arrival in the country. Staysure always advise travellers to check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website for up to date information before they travel www.fco.gov.uk."
