Mothers day flowers

One of the best days of the year is just around the corner, and that day is Mother’s Day. It’s better than your birthday because nobody sends you a witty card to remind you that the candles won’t fit on the cake, or that they can start reading your age by the number of lines on your face!  No, on Mother’s Day you’re celebrated for being a mum. So, let’s give our loving offspring some suggestions about the wonderful treats they could spoil us mums with on March 15th.

These gifts are based on a range of budgets: there are some very stylish personalised gifts for under £20-30, if you look in the right place. If you don’t find anything in this list that would suit your mum, there are plenty of sites you can use for further inspiration including, and

1. A West End musical

You don’t have to be a London resident to enjoy its world famous musical theatres. With new shows appearing all the time, you’ll be spoilt for choice. But, sometimes the oldies are the best. Phantom of the Opera tickets and a pre-theatre dinner for two, is the perfect night out combo that should allow out-of-towners to catch the last trains home.

2. Pamper Me aromatherapy bath gift set

This Lovely Soap Company gift set is a luxurious gift that won’t break the bank. The gift box comprises an essential oil candle, a handmade natural soap bar and two hand rolled cocoa butter bath truffles. There are three scent choices; Balance, Refresh and Relax. The company only uses natural products, so it’s suitable for sensitive skins, and you can buy the gift online.

3. Personalised family charm necklace

Personalised charm necklaces feature frequently in 2015 Mother’s Day gift suggestion lists. What’s more, there are no shortage of designs and the prices range across varied budgets. Having children’s names engraved on the modern charms is a gift that lasts, and you can always adapt the design to include grandchildren.

4. The book of your mum

A personalised present that is fun and thoughtful, a book with your mum’s name on it is a 50-page celebration of her that you construct and write with the help of the designers. It is all done online and you can send them photos of mum for inclusion. The price is around £20 and it’s delivered within 3-4 working days. So you still have time!

5. Design your own perfume day

Celebrities have their own signature perfumes, so what better present could you give mum than a ‘Create Your Own Fragrance‘ day out. Working with master perfumers, your mum will design a scent to her taste, give it a name and bring it home in a special inlaid box. These days are available nationwide.

6. A city break abroad

The opportunity to get away from it all is one of the best gifts you can offer the woman who constantly looks after everybody else’s needs. Exploring a new city on a weekend break is just the sort of treat she deserves. There are a number of travel sites that have a range of city breaks on offer, starting from £89 for a weekend in Barcelona, Berlin or Madrid.

7. Personalised drinks coasters

Personalised products are very much in fashion and a set of coasters with family photos from Instajunction is a thoughtful gift that keeps family members always under mum’s watchful eye…and her teacup or wine glass!

8. A heavenly spa day at a Bannatyne’s Health Club

A relaxing massage is the Mother’s Day special offer at any Bannatyne’s Health Club nationwide. The offer is a two-for-one deal, so it’s an ideal opportunity for mum to have a day out with one of the girls, or maybe she’ll take dad along to share her pamper day.

9. UK hotel break

Follow the staycation trend and book a weekend at a UK hotel. are offering “two nights for the price of one” at 71 locations around the UK. The hotel choices are in some of the UK’s most beautiful countryside – it’s an opportunity to explore your own country and relax while doing it.

10. Champagne at The Shard

The Shard is Western Europe’s tallest building and you can see all of London from its viewing platform. The unique venue offers a Champagne Experience during which you’ll sip on Lanson bubbly and snack on gourmet popcorn in savoury flavours such as Camembert or olive oil, truffle oil and salt, while looking out over the capital’s historic skyline. Available from noon until closing.

And, for those of you who end up panicking in last minute mode, you know that a beautiful bouquet of flowers will always be welcome, as will a box of chocolates. I once received a ‘Mother’s Day Rap’ from my then 12-year-old son who aspired to be the next Jay-Z. I haven’t forgotten it; so you see, it really is the thought that counts, not the amount of money you spend. But I may show him this list just in case!
