Why do I need travel insurance for the UK?

Even when you’re taking a break ‘on your own doorstep’, many of the holiday risks remain the same. Sadly, things do sometimes go wrong on holiday – even close to home. 1 in 20 people made claims on their Annual Travel Insurance in 2017*.

Will I be covered if my holiday is cancelled or if I have to cut it short?

Yes. In fact having to cancel your holiday is one of the most common reasons for travel insurance claims.

Am I covered for UK travel delays?

Yes. there’s cover of up to £1,500 available if the first or final leg of your trip in the UK is disrupted by any of the following:

Will I be covered by the NHS in the Channel Islands or Isle of Man?

Sadly no. The Channel Islands (including Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney, Herm and Sark) and the Isle of Man are not actually part of the UK itself, meaning that that they do not have the NHS.

Also, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man do not accept the EHIC.

So if you need to be flown back to the mainland for medical treatment, it could mean a hefty bill. But having good quality travel insurance will mean you’re covered.

How does the medical screening work?

We’ll ask you some questions about any pre-existing medical conditions you have to help us cover your conditions.

All of the questions we ask are multiple choice and you’ll need to give us full and accurate answers. That’s because if you have a medical condition that’s not included in your policy, in the event of a claim you would find you’re not actually covered. So it might help to have details of your medical condition to hand during the process.

The sort of questions we may ask you include:

• How long have you had this medical condition?
• Have you recently been treated with surgery?
• Do you take regular medication for this?

What are my choices of travel policy?

You can choose from two types of policy for you and your family’s travel plans in the UK (and beyond):

Single Trip Travel Insurance is ideal if you’re going for a one-off holiday or trip. A couple of weeks in Cornwall? A long weekend in Edinburgh? A Single Trip policy is just right for this. Cover only ends when your holiday is over.

Annual Travel Insurance may be a better fit for you if you’re planning on taking more than one holiday within a year. It can cover all of your trips in the UK as long as you have paid for at least two nights away, as well as any trips outside the UK, depending on the regional cover you’ve chosen.

Plus, with an annual plan, you’ll automatically get 21 days of Winter Sports cover if you’re under 71 years old.

Can I make changes to my policy even after I’ve bought it?

If something changes with your medical conditions before you go on a trip, we need you to tell us about it as soon as possible, or it may mean you aren’t covered for a claim later on.
