Why do I need travel insurance for holidays in the UK?

Even when you’re taking a break in the UK, many of the holiday risks remain the same.

Having a UK travel insurance policy for staycations and UK domestic cruises gives you extra peace of mind. So, you’ll be covered for up to £5,000 if you’re forced to cancel your trip or cut your holiday short, just as long as you’ve booked and paid for a place to stay for two nights or more.

Any medical treatment you need in the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) will be covered by the NHS. But if needed, we can help you to be transferred to a hospital that’s closer to home, which wouldn’t usually be covered by the NHS.

For example, if you’re hospitalised in Scotland but live in Bristol, we could cover the costs of moving you to a hospital more local, if medically necessary.

Superior COVID-19 cover for UK policies**

Our domestic travel insurance policies come with cover for COVID-19, at no extra cost. We’ll cover you if you’re forced to cancel your trip due to vaccine intolerance, denied boarding, being forced to self-isolate through Track and Trace and more.

Repatriation cover for UK Travel Insurance

If you’ve booked a UK staycation to any of the following destinations, we’ll cover you for up to £10,000 for repatriation related claims.

  • England
  • Scotland
  • Wales
  • Northern Ireland
  • Isle of Man
  • The Channel Islands including Jersey

Travel Insurance for Guernsey

There is no reciprocal healthcare agreement between the UK and Guernsey, which means any emergency medical treatment would need to be paid for by you. If you’re travelling to Guernsey our holiday travel insurance covers you for medical expenses up to an unlimited amount, depending on the policy you choose.

Know before you go

It’s important you keep up-to-date with the latest travel advice.

Before you travel within the UK, you’ll need to know:

  • Your travel dates don’t conflict with any national or local travel bans.
  • Your destination’s local government advice, safety guidelines and entry requirements.

Should I declare my pre-existing medical conditions on my travel insurance?

When you're on holiday in the UK, you’ll want to enjoy your holiday comfortably, confident that you’re well covered by your travel insurance if you have a medical emergency.

You can declare your medical condition through our online medical screening process, which is a straightforward set of questions for us to understand how your medical conditions affect you. Or, if you prefer, you can complete the medical screening over the phone.

It’s important that all pre-existing conditions are declared on your policy. Failure to disclose any pre-existing medical conditions may affect the validity of your policy should you need to claim.

"Having used Staysure Insurance before they were my first choice when booking another trip. Very happy with the cover provided and how easy the website is to navigate. Would highly recommend."
"Having to cancel my annual holiday 8 days before travelling last year, due to an injury, was frustrating but Staysure helped me reclaim most of the expense on my basic insurance. This year I have upped the premium with the help of an advisor - all the options detailed, so I have been able to choose what is right for me."
"Very happy with a straighforward process. Good range of options available and very easy to enter the pre-existing medical conditions. Great cover provided at a good price"
