1. Costa del Sol, Spain
Malaga, Marbella, Benalmádena, Mijas, Estepona and Fuengirola – it’s no surprise that this sun-drenched part of southern Spain is number one on our list – this is prime sun-and-sea territory! Thanks to miles of sandy beaches, an abundance of cloudless blue skies, golf courses galore and an enviable all-year round great climate, it seems we can’t get enough of the sunshine coast.

2. Veneto, Italy
Located in the northwest of Italy, the Veneto region extends from the Dolomites to the Adriatic and includes the popular towns of Verona, Padua, Belluno, Rovigo, Treviso and Vicenza. The regional capital and jewel in the crown is of course, the canal city of Venice. Probably the most unique city in the world, Venice is visited by millions of tourists every year.

At number three in our top 10 is the largest island in Greece and the fifth largest in the Mediterranean – Crete. 4. Nice, France
Nice by name, Nice by nature! Located on the ever popular French Riviera, Nice offers year-round sunshine, old-world opulence, a stunning stretch of sand lapped by warm Mediterranean waters and Belle Époque architecture galore. The famous Promenade des Anglais was aptly named after the English. They made this stretch of coastline popular from the 18th century, as they wanted to escape the cold winters back home – so not much has changed in that respect!

5. Dalaman area, Turkey
Located in the south west of Turkey, this holiday hot spot is known as the “Turquoise Coast”. Boasting a scenic shoreline, countless enchanting pebble coves, beautiful bays and long stretches of sand, sun-seekers flock here each year to unroll their beach towels and soak up the sunshine. The area is carpeted in pine forests and due to the rugged mountains, the resorts have never grown to more than large villages – perfect if you’re looking for a less-developed holiday destination.

6. Algarve, Portugal
The alluring Algarve sits on the southernmost tip of Portugal and is the most popular tourist destination in the country. Incorporating resorts such as Albufeira, Lagos and Carvoeiro, the Algarve has stunning golden beaches and provides a year-round balmy climate for countless visitors to enjoy. Away from the coast, you’ll find quaint little castle towns, ancient ruins and rural countryside.

7. Paphos Region, Cyprus
Home to Aphrodite (the goddess of love), the Paphos region is in the southwest of Cyprus and runs from Polis to Limassol. The beaches are the region’s main draw and you’ll understand why when you see them. Limassol and Paphos are the most popular destinations in the area and offer tourists plenty of choice when it comes to bars and restaurants. But away from the built up areas you’ll discover fascinating historical remains, unspoilt stretches of coast and charming old Mediterranean villages surrounded by pine-covered hills and olive groves.

8. Sliema, Malta
Sliema is a hot spot for tourists on the north-eastern coast of Malta, nestled between Paceville and the capital Valletta. Its location makes it ideal as a base to explore this beautiful island. Sliema is known for its laid-back nature and is peppered with designer shops. It’s also a great place to wine and dine as it is full of sophisticated bars and restaurants, which offer a wide variety of international cuisine.

9. Olden, Norway
Olden’s entry at number nine suggests it’s not all about the sunshine and beaches for Staysure customers, as this small village of 500 people is a popular cruise ship destination. Upwards of 60 ships visit each year, as the village is close to the largest glacier in Europe – the Jostedal Glacier (15 miles away), which is a popular hiking destination. Surrounded by jagged mountains, the village is set in green meadows that are ablaze with multi-coloured flowers during the summer.

10. Berlin, Germany
Last but not least, the German capital Berlin is like a magnet to Staysure customers this year. Home to the 18th century Brandenburg Gate (pictured) and the Berlin wall, this is a huge city steeped in history and overflowing with culture. If you’re in town make sure you visit the Reichstag, the home of the German Parliament, for some spellbinding views of the city. There’s also a wealth of art galleries, the world-renowned Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Europe’s largest department store – KaDeWe .
