Visiting family in Australia

Kate and her family reunited in Australia

Flying to Australia to see her grandchildren twice a year is the icing on the cake for retired Staysure customer Kate Lorenz.

For most people visiting Down Under, it’s the sights and sounds of the continent that lure them to its shores. Top of the list for many globetrotters are the Great Barrier Reef, the Sydney Opera House and Uluru (Ayers Rock) – not to mention all the exotic wildlife such as kangaroos, koalas and crocodiles.

But for 71-year-old Kate Lorenz, visiting Australia is much more than that. The grandmother of two gets to visit her son James and his wife Petrana, and their gorgeous children for two months at a time. Although she is quick to add that she has seen many of the country’s highlights such as Sydney and the Blue Mountains since her son moved to Coogee Bay five years ago.

Kate, who lives in Frome, Somerset, and has rheumatoid arthritis, uses a Single Trip Travel Insurance policy for her trips, after a recommendation from a friend who also uses Staysure. She explained that she is ‘delighted’ with Staysure as her policy enables her to visit her family for two months at a time.

“I tend to do the child care and let them have some time off,” said the former restaurant and bar manager. “Often they’re straight off to a hotel when I get there. But I’m more than happy because I get the children all to myself. Somebody said to me recently that my grandchildren are my dessert in life and that’s true. They make me laugh every minute of every day. They are just so honest and fun at that age.

“I don’t send them Christmas or birthday presents but I take parcels when I go, so it’s a thrilling time when I come to visit. It’s a home from home for me. But I couldn’t bear the heat from November onwards, it’s far too hot!”
