Do I need travel insurance for Mexico?
When you’re planning a sun-filled trip to Mexico, the last thing you’ll be planning on is something going wrong.
But unfortunately, it does happen.
In fact, 1 in 20 people* had to claim on their annual travel insurance with us in 2017.
If you need medical treatment when in Mexico, then having the right holiday insurance can help to save you thousands of pounds in potential medical fees. It can also help you get home safely and reimburse you for any lost or stolen possessions.
Travel insurance to Mexico when you have pre-existing medical conditions
We specialise in helping people with pre-existing conditions to be covered properly with travel insurance.
There’s no invasive medical exam – just a simple questionnaire that you can fill out online or over the phone.
What does travel insurance for mexico include?
The travel insurance options for Mexico include either a basic or comprehensive policy. You can decide which option is most suitable for your trip, and what you need covering by your travel insurance. With medical emergency and repatriation cover up to £10m on our Comprehensive policy, and cancellation and cutting your holiday short cover up to £15,000**, you can go to Mexico knowing you’re covered properly if the worst happens.
What if it’s not safe to travel to Mexico?
Most holidays to Mexico are completely trouble-free. Over half a million Britons visited Mexico in 2016*** and we hope you’ll have a fantastic holiday.
But if you’re worried about natural disasters, or terrorism, then we can help put your mind at ease.
If the area you’re travelling to experiences an earthquake, fire, flood, or hurricane that leads to the Government issuing advice against travelling there, then you’ll be covered to cancel with all of our policies as standard.
Sometimes, the reason for not being able to follow through on your travel plans can unfortunately be due to terrorism. It’s a scary and unwanted thought, but one that we can help with.
To be covered for terrorist acts where the Government issues guidance against travel, our Travel Disruption optional extra will help you.
There are also times when the Government acknowledges and declares an act of terrorism, but has not yet issued advice on travel. When you’re due to travel this can be a tense time, especially if you believe you could be in danger.
With our optional Terrorism Cancellation Cover, you’ll be covered if:
- The event is officially declared**** as an act of terrorism.
- The event occured within 42 days of your date of travel.
- You’re planning on staying within a 40 miles radius of the event’s location.
What if I want to make changes?
If after buying your policy you are diagnosed with a new condition, or something changes with the medical information you declared with us, then it’s essential that you tell us about it. We’ll update your policy where we can.
You may also decide after buying your policy, that you’d be better protected by upgrading from a Basic to Comprehensive policy. Or that you’d like to add optional extras – such as our terrorism cover or Golf travel insurance.
With a Staysure policy, you can upgrade at anytime as long as you haven’t travelled, made a claim on your policy, or would be looking to make an immediate claim on an add-on. You won’t need to cancel your original policy or rebook. Simply call our Customer Services team and we’ll help to get you covered.
Although we can upgrade your policy, we won’t be able to reduce it without cancelling your policy within our 14 day cooling off period. So, it’s worth making sure that you’ve booked the right policy for your needs.
