Can I get travel insurance against FCDO advice?

Travel update: If you’re looking to travel soon, be sure to check that your travel dates don’t conflict with any UK government travel bans. Travel restrictions vary according to your home nation, so we recommend checking the latest guidance before you take out a policy as information can change quickly.

Government enforced bans are different from FCDO travel advice.

If the FCDO advises against all but essential travel to your destination in Europe because of COVID-19, adding the European FCDO Travel Advice Extension to your policy means you can still go on holiday with cover.

You can be covered by your policy limits apart from COVID-19 related claims, or the reason for FCDO advice against all but essential travel while you’re away, when travelling to Europe (as well as Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey and Egypt) for up to 104 days.

So, if your holiday to places like Spain or France can still go ahead and you feel safe enough to go, then adding the European FCDO Travel Advice Extension to your policy means you can still be covered. Extra peace of mind starts from just £5 per policy, but may vary depending on your cover needs.

If an unexpected event occurs while you’re on holiday, and the FCDO advises travellers to return home, we will also pay you up to £1,000 for additional accommodation and travel expenses where needed.

Before you go it’s important to check you have met the entry requirements of the destination you’re going to, as well as local government guidelines.

Should I declare my pre-existing medical conditions on my travel insurance?

You can declare your medical conditions through our online medical screening process, which is a straightforward set of questions for us to understand how your medical condition affects you. Or, if you prefer, you can complete the medical screening over the phone.

It’s important that all pre-existing conditions are declared on your medical travel insurance.

This will avoid large medical bills if you need treatment in another country. Failure to disclose any pre-existing medical conditions may affect the validity of your policy should you need to claim.
