However you choose to get to mainland Europe, it’s important to cover your trip with travel insurance. Even if it’s only for a day trip to Calais, travelling through the tunnel or crossing the channel on a ferry can come with the same mishaps as a long trip away.
Having a GHIC or valid EHIC means you may not need to hand over any Euros at local hospitals in a medical emergency (excluding Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland).
However, having a GHIC or valid EHIC doesn’t cover you for things like having to cancel your trip due to a medical emergency, helping you to get home safely if you do have a medical emergency or having your Euros stolen.
Having tailored travel insurance can give you the peace of mind you deserve, so you can relax.
