Ryan Howsam
Founder and chairman of Staysure
20 years of dreaming big
Ryan Howsam founded Staysure in 2004 with one big dream – to offer over 50s in the UK cover for pre-existing medical conditions.
Today, we employ over 700 people across the UK and internationally as part of the Staysure Group. As a privately owned company, we continue to make decisions based on the needs of our customers, not for shareholders.
We do things by the book
Doing things the right way is important. You know that. After all, if you’ve read down to here? You’re a pretty thorough person.
You may want to know about the rules and regulations to make sure we really know our stuff.
There are a number of governing bodies that help make sure we’re doing things by the book.
From protecting your personal information to making sure we’re not making false or misleading statements on our website or in an advertisement or by any other means.
These include bodies with three letter acronyms including the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority), the iCO (Information Commissioner’s Office), the FOS (Financial Ombudsman Service) and the Financial Services Commission (FSC).
It’s a good idea to check that any financial insurer you choose is registered with the FCA on their Financial Services Register.
We take this sort of stuff seriously and even have a team who live and breathe compliance to make sure we’re doing things by the book. We don’t believe in cutting corners as it’s not the right thing to do. They review every single piece of information we provide before it’s launched to make sure we’re doing things right.
If you think we’re not doing something as well as we could, or have a complaint, then we really do welcome your feedback.
Where you have a valid claim, and your medical expenses exceed £350 we will look to settle the bill directly with the medical provider where possible. Just call the 24-hour emergency helpline listed on your validation certificate.
If you require emergency assistance and need help translating our 24 hour emergency helpline is there to help.
If you need to call Staysure Asstance helpline during an insured event or receive a call then you can claim back the cost when submitting your claim.
Yes, if you have pre-booked a flight and either your first outward or final inward international flight is delayed as a direct result of a strike or industrial action, adverse weather conditions, failure of air traffic control systems, or mechanical breakdown of aircraft, sea vessel, coach or train then you have a valid claim.
You’ll be covered for cancellation of your holiday if the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office have issued a warning against all but essential travel because of natural disasters, such as a typhoon, hurricane or earthquake with any policy if this was an unforeseen event.
Yes, we can cover you if you are made redundant provided you qualify for a redundancy payment under current legislation applicable within your home country.
In the event of a valid claim, we will ask you to provide confirmation you will receive redundancy payment from your employer.
If you require more than our standard packages we have some optional extras to choose from:
*UK’s favourite based on more 5-star Trustpilot reviews than any other provider.
**Travel Doctor is powered by Air Doctor. Up to 3 appointments per insured person, per policy. Geographical restrictions and full T&C's apply, see terms & conditions for more information.
