While it’s not a legal requirement to have travel insurance for your trip, it is important to have. Travel insurance covers you for the unforeseen – things going wrong when you least expect them to.
Many tour operators will ask that you have comprehensive travel insurance before you go away, just in case something unexpected happens.
For medical expenses, travel insurance can save you a lot of money if you need treatment abroad, particularly in countries like the USA. In fact, the USA has the highest average price for a medical claim of £9,941, which is double that of the next highest average claim.
There are a number of variables that are used to calculate the price of a policy. These can be destination, duration, policy type, additional cover options, age and medical conditions.
This means that no two policies are the same and can vary from person to person.

Customers who want to protect their trip from cancellation can book their policy early - as leaving things till the last minute may mean that you’re not covered.
- With Annual Multi-Trip policies, you choose a start date up to 90 days in advance.
- New Single Trip policies can be purchased up to 18 months in advance of your start date. Cancellation cover with Single Trip policies starts from the moment you buy your policy.
Even when you’re taking a break in the UK, many of the holiday risks remain the same.
Having a UK travel insurance policy for staycations and UK domestic cruises gives you extra peace of mind. So, you’ll be covered for up to £5,000 if you’re forced to cancel your trip or cut your holiday short, just as long as you’ve booked and paid for a place to stay for two nights of prepaid, pre-booked accommodation.
Any medical treatment you need in the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) will be covered by the NHS. But if needed, we can help you to be transferred to a hospital that’s closer to home, which wouldn’t usually be covered by the NHS.
For example, if you’re hospitalised in Scotland but live in Bristol, we could cover the costs of moving you to a hospital more local, if medically necessary.

Qualifying Criteria
Your policy contains restrictions, conditions and exclusions that relate to your health and to the
health of others on whom your trip might depend. You must read the following information and be
satisfied that this policy meets your needs.
Pre-existing medical conditions will not be covered unless they have ALL been declared, and
accepted by us in writing. You must therefore ensure that you answer all questions about yourself
and anyone else insured under your policy fully, honestly, and to the best of your knowledge,
as failure to answer our questions accurately may affect the cover we provide and our ability to
pay your claim. Please see page 4 for what you must do if you have a change to your health after
purchasing your policy.
We are unable to provide cover for any pre-existing medical condition(s) where you have
an undiagnosed medical condition, or a condition where you are currently on a waiting list,
undergoing treatment, or tests or, where you are awaiting the results of any tests. There are
some instances we may be able to provide cover for pre-existing conditions if you are awaiting
a procedure, (please see the Medical Declaration section on page 8 for more details).
If you have any questions about what cover will be provided by this policy in respect of your
existing medical conditions, please contact Staysure Customer Services.
Please note: this policy does not provide cover for treatment that can be delayed and carried out
after your repatriation home or for any private medical expenses where medically suitable state
treatment is available. It is therefore a condition of this insurance policy that in the first instance you
make use of any reciprocal health agreement between the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, or the
Isle of Man and the country you have travelled to, should you require medical treatment whilst travelling.Yes, you can take out a policy on behalf of somebody else. This would make you the ‘policy organiser’ on any documentation.
- If you wish for someone else to speak about the policy you must ask for them to be added as a "Named Person" on the policy, This will then give them authority to speak to us when the policy organiser isn't present.
