Travel insurance for over 70s

At Staysure, we do not believe your age or medical conditions should stop you from being properly insured when you go on holiday. We offer great value travel insurance, tailored to suit your needs.

Cover for over 60 pre-existing medical conditions comes at no extra cost. More complex complaints can often also be included, subject to a simple, confidential screening process, which can be done online or over the phone. Through our tailored policies, we provide all the cover you need for medical emergencies, loss, damage, missed departures, cancellations and much more.

To find out exactly what cover we can provide for you, simply talk to the experts on 0844 692 8444 or get a quote online.

At Staysure, we offer Basics and Comprehensive policies to cover both European and worldwide travel.

Basics travel insurance Comprehensive travel insurance
Medical emergencies and repatriation, up to £5m
Baggage, up to £200
Optional cancellation, curtailment and trip interruption, up to £5,000
Medical emergencies and repatriation, up to £10m
Baggage, up to £2,000
Cancellation, curtailment and trip interruption, up to £5,000
Personal liability, up to £2m
Legal protection, up to £25,000

It is important to declare all your medical conditions when obtaining your quote because, without prior knowledge of your pre-existing complaints, we will not be able to provide you with adequate cover. It would be a shame to find that the insurance you purchased does not cover you for medical bills for the treatment of a condition which you forgot to declare.

To find out which policy is most suited to your needs, simply call us on 0844 692 8444 for helpful information and advice.

Travel tips for over 70s

Check the entry requirements of the country you wish to visit as you may need a visa. Some countries require your passport to be valid for at least the length of your stay, while others require six months validity from the date of your departure. Find out more about passport regulations directly from the GOV.UK site. For information and helpful tips on local laws and customs in the country you are visiting, consult the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
Before leaving, it's a good idea to make copies of all your important documents, such as your passport, credit cards and driving license, and leave them at home with someone you trust, who can provide you with them should the need arise.
Check with your GP that you have all the vaccinations you may need. Remember, they will need to be administered at least eight weeks before you travel. For a full list of travel vaccinations, NHS fitfortravel is a valuable source of information.
Apply for a free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which entitles you to free or reduced-cost state medical treatment in many European countries. The card ensures you treatment on the same basis as a resident of the country you are visiting, which means discrepancies; for example, some countries require patient contribution, while others charge for private ambulance services. The EHIC is therefore no substitute to a travel insurance policy which also covers you repatriation as well as extras such as passport and baggage loss.
Remember, as a tourist who is over 65, you may well be eligible for reduced cost tickets to enter attractions and your excursions, especially when travelling in Europe. The Telegraph has an interesting country-by-country guide, showing where you can expect to find concessions.
Take a little local currency with you to cover for a taxi fare or similar when you arrive and may not be able to access funds easily. Be careful to shop around for the best currency exchange deal - some providers offer 0% commission and allow you to exchange any currency you have not spent, back to Sterling at the same rate when you get back.
It could be a good idea to inform your bank that you're travelling abroad so that your cards do not get blocked by them as a precaution against theft.
