Travel insurance is always there to step in when things don’t go as planned, but keep in mind, there are some things that holiday insurance for over 75s doesn’t cover.

Here’s what your travel insurance policy won’t cover:

✘ Choosing not to go on your trip
✘ Strikes that were public knowledge when you made your booking

Does travel insurance cover pre-existing medical conditions for over 75s?

“Most pre-existing conditions can be covered by our over 75s policy. You’ll pay more for cover, but it means you're protected against any hefty medical bills should you need emergency treatment when you’re away.”

- Vikki Measures, travel insurance expert

How much is travel insurance for over 75s?

You may have noticed that as you’ve hit the over-75 mark, your travel insurance price has taken a bit of a jump. Sure, age plays a part, but it’s not the whole story. Several other things can nudge your policy cost up or down. Things like:

  • Your health history
  • The length of your trip
  • Where you’re headed
  • The amount of cover you need

How can over 75s get cheaper holiday insurance?

Want to lower your policy cost a little? There are a few ways to make over 75s travel insurance more affordable.

Firstly, don’t go overboard with your cover. If your holiday costs just a few hundred pounds, you don’t need an all-inclusive policy that covers thousands. A handy way to know if you’re sufficiently covered is by checking the amount of cancellation cover included. See what your trip costs per person, and choose a policy that matches that amount.

Planning just one trip? A single trip policy will likely be your best choice. But, if you’re always on the go, an annual policy could offer better value than buying multiple single trip policies.

But keep in mind, cheaper isn’t always better, especially when it comes to pre-existing health conditions. So, make sure you’re picking the right cover for your needs, not just the least expensive one.

You might be wondering...

If you’re over 75, you may find that travel insurance costs a bit more than younger travellers. This is mostly due to the higher likelihood of health issues cropping up – be it pre-existing conditions or unexpected ones. Since the risk of illness is higher, there’s also a greater chance you’ll need to use your travel insurance.

Buying your travel insurance as soon as you’ve booked your holiday is a smart move. This makes sure that if an unexpected event forces you to cancel, you’re covered.

Even if your trip is a couple of years down the line, you may be able to get a single trip policy up to two years in advance. So, go ahead and book that dream holiday knowing you’re protected.

No matter your age, we’ve got you covered. Fancy a weekend getaway to Rome? Our European policy has you sorted. Or maybe you’re thinking of a grand adventure across the globe? We’ve got a worldwide policy for that.

Everyone’s holiday plans look a little different. Whether it’s a quick weekend escape or a family visit overseas, we make finding the perfect cover a breeze!

1. Single trip travel insurance is designed for one round trip. It’s a great fit if you’re not a frequent traveller and don’t want to pay for unused cover. With this policy, you can journey for up to 104 days.

2. Annual travel insurance gives you cover for multiple trips throughout the year. This is a good option if you’re a regular jet-setter taking multiple trips within 12 months, and you can travel for up to 35 days per trip. You won’t need to buy separate policies for each journey, and it can work out better value for money too. You can travel for up to 183 days in a 12 month period.

Find out more about their differences in our blog, Annual vs Single Trip Travel Insurance.
