Why do I need travel insurance when living with an enlarged prostate?
Like all medical conditions, it’s always best to be on the safe side when travelling. Just in case the worst happens when you’re away. Not only does having travel insurance give you peace of mind, the right cover could reduce the costly fees of medical treatment if you were to need it.
Having the right travel insurance when going away with an enlarged prostate ensures that you’re covered if anything were to go wrong when you’re away. After all, you want to be relaxed on holiday and having the right insurance can help minimise any worries you might have, and give you that extra reassurance.
In 2017, 1 in 20 people claimed on their insurance.* So doing so is more common than you might have thought.
From lost or stolen possessions to medical treatment, having a helping hand there if you need it is a valuable part of your holiday checklist.
Declaring your pre-existing medical conditions
Also known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), living with an enlarged prostate affects people differently.
It may have little impact on your quality of life, whereas others may need to control their symptoms with medication.
Regardless of the severity, it’s important you tell us about your condition during the medical screening process. The medical screening is completely confidential and will make sure you’re covered properly.
We like to think if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right. We’re sure you feel the same. That may be why we were voted Britain’s Most Trusted Travel Insurance Provider for 2018.**
The medical screening takes only minutes, is confidential and makes sure your cover is tailored to suit your needs.
The process can be done over the phone, with one of our friendly advisors, or online today.
What does our travel insurance cover?
What will I be asked in the medical screening?
The medical screening process takes only minutes and helps us to find out about how your conditions affect you, so your policy is tailored to you. You must make sure your answers are accurate and truthful, to save any issues if you need to make a claim later on. We recommend you have your medical history to hand during the screening process, to make sure everything is accurate.
When living with an enlarged prostate, the questions we ask might include:
- Have you had more than two urinary tract infections in the last twelve months?
- Have you ever been admitted to hospital as a result of a urinary tract infection?
- Are you on any long-term treatment for this condition?
- Have you been treated for a kidney infection in the last three months?
If I have an EHIC, do I still need travel insurance for an enlarged prostate?
Yes. If you’re travelling within the EEA (the EU plus Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland) or Switzerland, it is a condition of our insurance that you have take an EHIC on your travels.
But although the EHIC entitles you to subsidised or reduced medical fees when travelling, it’s not a replacement for travel insurance. An EHIC does not cover the costs of being flown home if you’re taken ill (which can be costly), or having to break off your holiday because of medical reasons. An EHIC won’t cover you for lost possessions, delays or other unwanted things that may happen when you travel.
So, although it’s a must for our insurance, it doesn’t replace it.
It’s always better to be safe than sorry, right?
